Combination skin is a mix of dry or skin on the cheeks and oily on the centre of your face (the area usually named T-zone). While exfoliating combination skin you should choose the peel which is suitable for all the zones of your face.
To exfoliate use a gentle peels which clean out clogged pores and remove blackheads on the area with oily skin and remove dry flakes from the cheeks.
For exfoliation of dry skin areas you can use such gentle peel as crèmes or lotions. The most suitable for the dry areas are the products which contain AHA because these products remove dead cells from epidermis without rubbing it and irritating it too much and also help to moisturize the skin.
Also for dry areas you can use a lotion or crème which contains exfoliating granules, but you should make sure it’s gentle enough and the granules are not too abrasive. Using such mechanical peel you should always apply it to the clean wet skin with a very gentle circular motion and avoid sensitive areas.
Never scrub oily areas of your face – it irritates the skin and stimulates more oil production. To remove blackheads it’s better use pore strips which are placed over blocked pores area and then pulled off.
Overexfoliation of oily areas may cause excessive oil secretion because the skin gets too activated and often exfoliation stimulates more oil production by the sebaceous glands.
It’s better to use peels that contain BHA to exfoliate only oily areas, the BHA is oil soluble and is the best suited to treat oily skin and unclog pores.
Also for combination skin exfoliation you can use clay masks, gentle peel which contain round polyurethane and silicone beads or enzyme peel products which exfoliate skin without rubbing it.
Choosing the peel always look for the products which normalize your skin, for example AHA-containing products or enzyme peels.
After using a peel for combination skin use a balancing moisturiser.
