Therapy

The first and the most important advice is to consult a dermatologist. He will help you to protect your skin from unwanted side-effects and to heal it faster and safer.

If there is no possibility to see a doctor, here are some general rules on how to treat your overexfoliated skin.

Over exfoliation implies that skin surface has been removed and vulnerable deeper layers have been exposed. Fast epithelium cells renewal contributes to quick healing (about 2 days). The most affected zones will be the last to heal.

Since the problem occurs due to excessive exfoliation, do not use any peels or mechanical abrasive exfoliators (like scrubs) until your skin recovers. Therapy should include proper moisturizing, even if there are some blemishes on the skin, to hydrate your skin and protect it from harmful environment. You will need slight, non-perfumed moisturizer suitable for sensitive skin for that. Choose the one with fewer components.

There are also special drugstore creams available, they promote skin healing and reduce its irritation, have antibacterial properties (e.g. Cicaplast B5 multi-repairing balm from La Roche Posay or Cicalfate restorative skin cream from Avene).

Employ mild cleanser for sensitive skin type as a part of daily skin care routine. Avoid health-and-beauty aids containing retinoids, any acids and benzoyl peroxide while therapy is being held.

The aloe vera gel is claimed to be efficient treatment. It relieves the sensation of burned soring skin, treats reddening and scabbing possible when overexfoliation occurs. Gradually apply the gel for the next few days for better healing.

Taking facial is a bad idea since it may make things worse and damage your skin.

Avoid acne prescription treatments while healing over exfoliation since they may lead to tough dehydrated and irritated skin. The most efficient therapy involves totally organic and natural treatments.

Do not touch your skin or rub it, protect it from cold or hot weather, dust and any kinds of pollution, try to prevent it’s contact with the woolen cloth or other irritative materials.

If therapy described above failed, you should consult the doctor on other treatments.
