Microdermabrasion creams are used in the majority of microdermabrasion systems because abrasive cream is the most essential ingredient of microdermabrasion.
Nowadays the abrasive cream is used in the majority of systems except of Dermapower, in which a battery-operated hand tool is used, like in clinics and spas.
Corundum (aluminum oxide) crystals are considered to be the best abrasive component of the cream because they have the same terms of hardness as diamonds (a perfect peeling effect is achieved). Sometimes bicarbonate sodium crystals (may be too soft, but more appropriate for tender skin), crushed pearls are used (but they are quite expensive), pumice crystals (are believed to be the most abrasive). The peeling effect, usually, depends on the surface of these crystals.
Sometimes the mixture of different crystals is used in microdermabrasion cream (pumice crystals, silica crystals, aluminum oxide crystals and pearl powder) to achieve perfect results, but such creams are overly abrasive.
Also abrasive micro crystals can be combined with mild acids, which results to better exfoliating effect. However such cream can damage some skin types. The best microdermabrasion creams are those with a single type of micro-crystals.
Natural extracts, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components are other ingredients being used in the microdermabrasion cream. They can be bamboo, grape seed and wine, green tea, jojoba, cucumber and almond extracts -they help the sensitive skin fight with the peeling. Such products are less allergenic which allow avoiding irritations.
Also vitamins K, E and C are added to cream. Vitamin C helps enlarge collagen production. Vitamin K makes the skin be recovered and Vitamin E – makes it elastic.
The main disadvantage of microdermabrasion creams is that they are oily. So it’s better to use them in the evening.
Adverse skin responses – irritations or breakouts are one another drawback of microdermabrasion creams.
It’s due to the chemicals and irritants in the cream which are not for a freshly peeled skin.
The ways of using of microdermabrasion cream:
A microdermabrasion cream can be massaged into the skin with sponge, special vibrating micro dermabrasion tool or even hands.
The average home microdermabrasion procedure takes about 10 minutes. Firstly the skin is prepared for the exfoliation and then the cream is applied for a few minutes. Microdermabrasion kit can be used in the evening as well as in the morning. The most micro dermabrasion creams are used on dry or damp skin with slow motions for about 3 minutes. But it’s easy to overdo it with the abrasion. The smallest crystals can be not felt, so there is a risk of skin damaging, irritations and injuries.
The most of the micro dermabrasion creams are created to be used on the face.
But it doesn’t mean they cannot be used on other parts of body. Nevertheless, there are also a few body microdermabrasion products in the trade. It’s prohibited to use them on the face to avoid some unwanted effects. The skin on a body is thicker, so more aggressive peeling should be applied. A body microdermabrasion cream which is applied on a face may result to irritation or difficulties because of the strong peeling effect.
