Microdermabrasion
What is microdermabrasion:
Microdermabrasion is one of the most recent techniques of skin care. It’s a cosmetic procedure of exfoliating the skin with abrasive materials. There are many various products and treatments which use this method (for example some medical procedures and salon treatments, creams, scrubs and masks) which you can use yourself at home and also this procedure can be done at medical and med spas to be more effective. Microdermabrasion treatment is usually done to the face, neck, arms, hands and chest.
During crystal microdermabrasion procedure the stream of crystals is sprayed under the great pressure over the skin surface with a special device. Usually zinc and aluminum oxide crystals, baking soda crystals or salt crystals are used. These crystals mechanically exfoliate dead cells layer from the skin and polish it. There is also another one type of microdermabrasion called diamond microdermabrasion which uses a diamond covered tip to exfoliate the skin.
As well as other kinds of skin peels it helps to renew skin surface, reduce fine lines, large pores and brown spots etc. After exfoliating the skin surface the stream of crystals and dead skin cells are vacuumed into special container.
Microdermabrasion can be also done with a roughened surface. It doesn’t require medical oversight and is usually used while facial spa treatments.
There are also various machines and devices for the microdermabrasion at home.
Microdermabrasion systems:
There are also a number of microdermabrasion systems:
• Crystal microdermabrasion
• Diamond microdermabrasion
• Home microdermabrasion
Crystal system is the traditional one, it relies on the crystals which are blasted over the skin surface.
Diamond system is done with the help of diamond tipped head which abrades upper skin layer.
Home microdermabrasion is an alternative to the professional procedure, it can be done by yourself at home and it’s quite easy and cheap to perform. When you use it the skin renewal and rebuilding accelerates. It can be used to remove some kinds of scars, spots and discolored epidermal tissue.
Who can use microdermabrasion:
Microdermabrasion is often used to treat sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen dark spots and scars. It’s not very painful and doesn’t require any anesthetic. This procedure can also be used in acne skin treatment. Also it helpes medicinal creams and lotions to be more effective, it happens because dead cells layer is removed from the skin surface and more of the active ingredients and moisture from the creams and lotions can reach the lower layers of skin.
Microdermabrasion is a quite safe procedure and is effective for all the skin types. Also it can be used for black, Asian and Hispanic skin. But you should consult with dermatologist if you have dilated capillaries or rosacea.
Microdermabrasion is a very effective treatment to clean out clogged pores. It’s a great alternative for patients with very sencitive skin who can’t use anti-acne drugs like Retin-A, but it’s not recommended for people who have active oral herpes.
There are also some conditions which make a person unsuited for microdermabrasion treatment: Active rosacea, Open sores, Fragile capillaries, Psoriasis, Vascular lesions, Widespread acne, Lupus, Herpetic lesions, Warts, Eczema Skin lesions, Anyone who takes anti-coagulants, Dermatitis, Erythematosus, Diabetes mellitus.
How often to use it:
Using the microdermabrasion method you should undergo a series of treatments, each one about 30-45 minutes. The specialist who will make the procedure will decide the number and periodicity of treatments according to your skin type, usually it’s about 2-4 treatments. Such exfoliation is always followed with special products which contain skin renewal activators and help the healing process, collagen growth and regeneration of the cells.
And again, after microdermabrasion treatment you always should use sunscreen cosmetics.
